गुलाम की कीमत ..(Slave price ..)

 

  

दुनिया के कट्टर और खूंखार बादशाहों में तैमूरलंग का नाम भी आता है। व्यक्तिगत महत्वाकांक्षा, अहंकार और जवाहरात की तृष्णा से पीड़ित तैमूर ने एक बार विशाल भू-भाग को रौंदकर रख दिया। उसकी क्रूरता का पता इस बात से चलता है, जब बगदाद में उसने एक लाख मरे हुए व्यक्तियों की खोपड़ियों का पहाड़ खड़ा कराया था। एक बार बहुत से गुलाम पकड़कर तैमूरलंग के सामने लाए गए। तुर्किस्तान का विख्यात कवि अहमदी भी दुर्भाग्य से उन गुलामों के साथ पकड़ा गया। जब कवि अहमदी तैमूर के सामने उपस्थित हुआ तो खतरनाक हंसी हंसते हुए उसने दो गुलामों की ओर इशारा करते हुए अहमदी से पूछा, ‘सुना है कि कवि बड़े पारखी होते हैं। क्या तुम बता सकते हो इन गुलामों की कीमत क्या होगी?’ अहमदी ने सरल और स्पष्ट उत्तर दिया, ‘इनमें से कोई भी 5 हजार अशर्फियों से कम कीमत का नहीं।’ अच्छा तो बताओ मेरी कीमत क्या होगी?’ तैमूर ने बड़े अभिमान से पूछा। ‘यही कोई 25 अशर्फी।’ निश्चिंत भाव से अहमदी ने उत्तर दिया। इतना सुनते ही तैमूर क्रोध से आग बबूला हो गया और चिल्लाकर बोला, ‘बदमाश! इतने में तो मेरी सदरी भी नहीं बन सकती, तू यह कैसे कह सकता है कि मेरा कुल मूल्य 25 अशर्फी है।’ अहमदी ने बिना किसी डर, आवेश या उत्तेजना के उत्तर दिया, ‘जी! बस, यह कीमत भी उसी सदरी की है, आपकी तो कुछ नहीं, क्योंकि जो मनुष्य पीड़ितों की सेवा नहीं कर सकता, बड़ा होकर छोटों की रक्षा नहीं कर सकता, असहायों, अनाथों की जो सहायता नहीं कर सकता, अपना मनुष्य होने से बढ़कर जिसे अहमियत प्यारी हो, उस इंसान का मूल्य तो चार कौड़ी भी नहीं। उससे अच्छे तो ये गुलाम ही हैं, जो किसी के काम तो आते हैं।’ अहमदी की यह बात सुनते ही तैमूर का अहंकार चूर-चूर हो गया।
