सेवा का स्थान ज्ञान और ज्ञान का स्थान सेवा नहीं ले सकती ..(Service location service can not take the place of knowledge and wisdom. . ..)

गुरु के पास एक शिष्य ने दीक्षा ली। वह बहुत विनीत और स्वभाव से मधुर था। तन-मन से अपने गुरु की सेवा करता। कमी बस एक थी कि ज्ञान की आराधना में उसका मन बिलकुल नहीं लगता। गुरु अनेक बार विद्या-अध्ययन के लिए प्रेरित भी करते, लेकिन वह कहता कि आप जैसे महान शास्त्रज्ञ और विद्वान्-मनीषी की सेवा और सान्निध्य का अवसर मुझे मिला है, फिर मुझे और माथापच्ची करने की क्या जरूरत है। मेरा कल्याण तो आपके चरणों की सेवा से ही हो जाएगा। 

एक बार गुरु ने उसे समझाया कि ज्ञान और सेवा, दोनों के मूल्य अलग-अलग हैं। सेवा का स्थान ज्ञान नहीं ले सकता और ज्ञान की जगह सेवा नहीं ले सकती। जैसे आंख की अपनी भूमिका है, वैसे ही ज्ञान का भी अपना खास योगदान है। परायी आंखें परायी ही होती हैं। वैसे ही मैं चाहे कितना ही ज्ञानी हूं और तुम चाहे मेरे प्रति कितने ही विनीत हो, मेरा ज्ञान तुम्हारे काम नहीं आ सकता। परायी आंख की तरह पराया ज्ञान भी समय पर साथ नहीं दे सकता। लेकिन वह शिष्य अपनी धारणा से टस से मस नहीं हुआ। वैसे आजकल ज्यादातर गुरु ऐसे ही शिष्यों की खोज में रहते हैं जो अंधभक्त बना रहे। लेकिन उस गुरु के सामने शिष्य को ज्ञान देने की चुनौती आ गई। उन्होंने एक समृद्ध आदमी की कहानी सुनाई। उसके चार पुत्र थे। सारे आज्ञाकारी और विनीत। सबकी शादी हो गई और कुछ ही वर्षों के अंतराल में परिवार भरा-पूरा हो गया। 

समय के साथ वह आदमी बूढ़ा हो गया और उसकी आंखों की रोशनी धूमिल हो गई। बेटे-बहुओं ने बहुत समझाया कि ऑपरेशन करवा लें, लेकिन हर बार वह जवाब देता कि इस बुढ़ापे में आंखों पर शस्त्र चलाने की इच्छा नहीं है। बेटे-बहू, पोते-पोतियां आंखें ही तो हैं। 

एक समय ऐसा आया जब उसकी आंखों की रोशनी खत्म हो गई। उसे हर काम के लिए सहारे की जरूरत पड़ने लगी। वैसे पूरा परिवार हमेशा सेवा में तत्पर रहता, लेकिन एक रात वह भयानक संकट में फंस गया। घर में आग लग गई। हर कोई घर को धू-धू जलते देख कर अपनी-अपनी जान बचा कर बाहर भागा। 

वह आदमी भी नींद से जागा लेकिन आंखों की ज्योति के अभाव में इधर-उधर पैर पटकता रहा। सही दिशा-ज्ञान के अभाव में लपटों से घिर गया। जान तो बच गई लेकिन शरीर के घाव से ज्यादा मन पर जख्म हो गया कि परिवार को उसका ख्याल क्यों नहीं आया। अपनी आंखें होतीं तो ऐसी नौबत नहीं आती। तब गुरु ने शिष्य की आंखों से परदा हटाते हुए कहा कि हर किसी को अपनी आंखों और ज्ञान पर ही भरोसा करना चाहिए। सेवा के साथ अध्ययन और श्रद्धा के साथ ज्ञान की भी आराधना जरूरी है।
