हमेशा से ही देश के ऋषि-मुनियों ने मानव जीवन के विकास और उसकी जटिल समस्याओं के समाधान करने के लिए प्रकृति का सहारा लिया है। इस दौरान उन्होंने जो भी वैज्ञानिक अनुसंधान किए उनमें प्राकृतिक संतुलन को बनाए रखा था। ऋषियों और मुनियों की सोच यही रही है कि हम जो भी जिस रूप में प्रकृति से लें, उसे उसी रूप में आदरपूर्वक प्रकृति को समर्पित कर दें। क्या आधुनिक युग में जबकि विज्ञान भौतिक जगत में इतना कुछ प्रगति कर चुका है, वह प्रकृति के साथ लयबद्धता और सामंजस्य को स्थापित करने में समर्थ हो पा रहा है? जवाब में ऐसा कहा जा सकता है कि शायद ऐसे होता दिखता नहीं, क्योंकि विश्व पटल पर चारों ओर फैली अशांति, रिसती हुई परमाणु ऊर्जा, घटती हुई ओजोन परत, पिघलते हुए हिम शिखर, गलत हाथों में आधुनिक हथियार, ये सब इसी तरफ इशारा करते हैं। हमें मानव समस्याओं के आधुनिक समाधान के लिए सिर्फ सरकारी और बड़े अनुसंधान केंद्रों पर निर्भरता कम करनी होगी। हमें अपने युवा वैज्ञानिकों और उद्योगपतियों को इस ओर प्रेरित करते हुए समर्थन देना होगा। वस्तुत: आज हमें ऐसे बड़े यज्ञ की आवश्यकता है जिसमें एक तरफ सभी वैज्ञानिक अपने ज्ञान की आहुति दें, उद्योगपति यज्ञशालाओं का निर्माण करें, ताकि इसके फलस्वरूप उत्पन्न हुए समाधान के प्रसाद से समस्त विश्व का कल्याण हो। 

आज हर मां चाहती है कि उसका बच्चा पढ़-लिखकर डॉक्टर, इंजीनियर, वैज्ञानिक या कोई जानी-मानी हस्ती बनें, लेकिन हम यह नहीं समझ पाते हैं कि इन बड़े पदों को हासिल करने के बाद ही सही मायने में हमारा कार्य शुरू होता है, जिसका उद्देश्य है मानवीय समस्याओं का समाधान और प्रकृति की रक्षा करना। चूंकि हमारा शरीर भी इसी प्रकृति का एक अंश है। इसलिए मैं चाहता हूं कि विज्ञान प्रकृति और संस्कृति को जोड़ने वाली एक डोर बने, ताकि हम सही मायने में प्रेम, शांति और सद्भाव के संवाहक बन सकें। संवाहक बनने के लिए यह जरूरी है कि लोगों के बीच जागरूकता पैदा की जाए। जागरूकता कैसे पैदा होगी? इसके जवाब में हमें यह सोचना होगा कि अगर हम प्रकृति के नियमों की अवहेलना करेंगे और प्रकृति के संसाधनों का अनुचित दोहन करेंगे तो प्रकृति भी हमें माफ नहीं करेगी।
