संजीवनी की खोज ..(Lifesaving discovery ..)

विद्यार्थी धन्वंतरी की पीठ में एक फोड़ा हो गया था। उस फोड़े के उपचार के लिए संजीवनी बूटी की परम आवश्यकता थी। आरोग्य आश्रम के अधिष्ठाता ने, धन्वंतरी से कहा, ‘इसके लिए तो तुम्हें स्वयं परिश्रम करना होगा। तुम अकेले जाओ और संजीवनी बूटी को वन में खोजो। बूटी मिलने पर उसे फोड़े पर लगा लेना।’ अधिष्ठाता की बात शिरोधार्य करके धन्वंतरी संजीवनी बूटी की खोज में निकल पड़े। बूटी खोजते-खोजते पूरा एक वर्ष व्यतीत हो गया। उन्होंने वन के कोने-कोने में संजीवनी बूटी को खूब खोजा। इस अंतराल में प्रायः एक हजार बूटियों को उन्होंने खोजा और उनकी परीक्षा कर डाली, पर संजीवनी का पता नहीं चला। इधर उनका फोड़ा बढ़ता ही जा रहा था। इतने दिन के कठोर परिश्रम से निढाल होकर वे एक दिन आश्रम के अधिष्ठाता के पास पहुंचे। आश्रम के अधिष्ठाता आचार्य धन्वंतरी की असफलता ताड़ गए। सिर पर हाथ फेरते हुए उन्होंने धन्वंतरी से धैर्य रखने को कहा। दूसरे दिन वे स्वयं धन्वंतरी को लेकर एक वन में पहुंचे और संजीवनी बूटी तुरंत खोज निकाली। उसे फोड़े पर लगा दिया। संजीवनी बूटी के असर से धीरे-धीरे फोड़ा ठीक होने लगा। एक दिन अवसर पाकर धन्वंतरी ने आचार्य से पूछा, ‘गुरुजी! जब आपको संजीवनी बूटी मिलने के स्थान का ठीक-ठीक पता ही था तो फिर आपने मुझे एक वर्ष तक क्यों भटकाया?’ आचार्य मुस्कराते हुए बोले, ‘प्रिय शिष्य! यदि ऐसा न करता तो तुम्हारी शोध प्रवृत्ति कैसे निखरती। नई औषधियों का पता कैसे लगता?’ धन्वंतरी की जिज्ञासा का समाधान हो गया। वही धन्वंतरी आयुर्वेद चिकित्सा पद्धति के जनक माने जाते हैं। आज भी उनकी जयंती मनाई जाती है। यदि वे बूटियों की खोज और परीक्षा न करते तो आयुर्वेद चिकित्सा असंख्य पीड़ितों को ठीक न कर पाती।
