शायर इकबाल कहते हैं:

तक्लीद की रविश से

तक्लीद अर्थात अनुसरण या किसी के पीछे चलने की आदत से तो आत्मघात कर लेना बेहतर है। नकल को आत्मघात के समान पश्चिम में भी माना गया है। किंतु अनुकरण बुरा नहीं क्योंकि यह जीवन की एक स्वाभाविक क्रिया है। सीखने की प्रक्रिया में अनुकरण अथवा वैसा ही करने का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। हम केवल अपने अनुभवों अथवा प्रयोगों द्वारा कितना सीख पाएंगे? बहुत कम। अनुकरण अथवा नकल द्वारा हम आसानी से दूसरों के अनुभवों का लाभ उठाकर अधिकाधिक सीख सकते हैं। लेकिन जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में अनुकरण हमारे लिए अच्छा नहीं। अब परीक्षाओं को ही लीजिए। परीक्षाएं जीवन की कसौटी होती हैं, लेकिन आजकल परीक्षाओं के दौरान ही सबसे ज्यादा नकल आम बात हो गई है।

प्रश्न उठता है कि नकल करना कहां तक उचित है? यह अच्छी बात है अथवा खराब? कम से कम परीक्षाओं में नकल करना तो खराब ही है। इसके बहुत ज्यादा नुकसान हैं। जब हम नकल करके पास होते हैं तो इसका सीधा-सा अर्थ है कि हममें योग्यता नहीं आती और इसका परिणाम ये होता है कि जब हम वास्तविक जीवन में कर्म के क्षेत्र में उतरते हैं तो सफलता नहीं मिलती। हमारा अज्ञान न केवल मानसिक रूप से परेशान करता रहता है अपितु व्यावहारिक रूप में भी बाधाएं खड़ी करता रहता है। बार-बार लोगों से सुनने को मिलता है कि रिश्वत देकर पास हुए थे या नकल करके! तब मन में आता है कि काश हमने नकल की बजाय ठीक से पढ़ाई कर ली होती। 

जीवन का एक महत्वपूर्ण तत्व है मौलिकता। कोई भी क्षेत्र क्यों न हो, मौलिकता का बड़ा महत्व है। उसमें नवोन्मेष होता है, सर्जनात्मकता होती है। उन्नति के लिए ये दोनों ही अनिवार्य हैं। अनुकरण अथवा नकल इन दोनों का ही गला घोंट देते हैं। नकल अच्छी बात भी हो सकती है, यदि हम केवल अच्छी बातों की नकल करें। हर व्यक्ति, हर समाज व हर राष्ट्र में कुछ अच्छाइयां व कुछ बुराइयां होती हैं। विजेता कोई अलग कार्य नहीं करते अपितु अलग ढंग से कार्य करते हैं। नकल करने में भी ये महत्वपूर्ण है कि किस व्यक्ति की नकल की जा रही है और कैसे। ये भी महत्वपूर्ण है कि किस आदत, कुशलता, कला अथवा सिद्धांत की नकल की जा रही है। अपने विरोधियों अथवा प्रतिद्वंद्वियों की अच्छाइयों की नकल करना भी हमारे हित में होगा। नकल उन्नति के लिए हो, बेईमानी अथवा दिखावे के लिए नहीं। सही नकल की अक्ल आ गई तो इंसान न केवल सफलता पाता है, सही मायने में एक कलाकार भी कहलाता है।
