उधार क्यों मांगें? ..(Why ask for credit? ..)

एक बार विद्यालय के कुछ छात्रों ने मिलकर एक पहाड़ी क्षेत्र में पिकनिक पर जाने की योजना बनाई। सभी ने यह तय किया कि वे अपने-अपने घरों से खाने-पीने का कुछ न कुछ सामान लेकर आएंगे, इससे पिकनिक का आनंद दोगुना हो जाएगा। एक छात्र बोला,‘मैं खीर लाऊंगा।’ दूसरा बोला,‘मैं पूरी-सब्जी ले आऊंगा।’ तीसरा बोला,‘मैं मिठाई लाऊंगा।’ चौथा बोला,‘मैं तो अपने घर से कुछ फल ले आऊंगा।’ सभी छात्रों ने अपने-अपने सामान के बारे में बता दिया। केवल एक छात्र चुप था। स्कूल से घर लौटने पर उसने यह बात अपनी मां को बताई। बेटे की बात सुनकर मां उदास हो गई। बात यह थी कि घर में इन दिनों गरीबी छाई हुई थी। खाने-पीने का ढंग का कोई सामान न था। कुछ खजूर जरूर पड़े हुए थे। कुछ ही देर बाद घर में पिता ने प्रवेश किया। मां ने पिता को बेटे की पिकनिक के बारे में बताया। दुर्भाग्यवश उस दिन उनकी जेब भी खाली थी। लेकिन वह अपने मासूम बेटे का दिल नहीं तोड़ना चाहते थे। उन्होंने निश्चय किया कि वह पड़ोसियों से उधार मांग कर बेटे की इच्छा अवश्य पूरी करेंगे। पिता पड़ोसी के घर जाने लगे तो बेटा दौड़ कर उनके पास गया और बोला,‘पिताजी, आप कहां जा रहे हैं?’ पिता बोले,‘बेटा, पड़ोसी के यहां कुछ रुपए उधार लेने जा रहा हूं ताकि तुम पिकनिक पर कुछ ढंग का सामान ले जा सको।’ पिता की बातें सुनकर बेटा बोला, ‘नहीं-नहीं पिताजी, उधार मांगना उचित नहीं है। वैसे भी मेरा पिकनिक पर जाने का मन नहीं है। यदि जाना हुआ तो घर में कुछ खजूर पड़े हैं, मैं वही ले जाऊंगा। खजूर बेहद पौष्टिक एवं लाभदायक होते हैं।’ बेटे की बात सुनकर मां व पिता दोनों भावुक हो गए। समझदारी भरी बातें करने वाला उनका यही बेटा बाद में लाला लाजपतराय के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ।
