त्याग का संदेश ..(The message of sacrifice. ..)

महात्मा गांधी उन दिनों दक्षिण अफ्रीका में रंगभेद के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ रहे थे। इस दौरान उनकी मुलाकात केलन बैक नाम के एक गोरे से हुई। केलन गांधीजी से बेहद प्रभावित हुए और हमेशा के लिए उनके अनुयायी बन गए। वह धनवान थे और अकेले ही रहते थे। पहली बार जब गांधीजी जेल गए तो उनकी अनुपस्थिति में उन्होंने गांधीजी के आंदोलन को संभाला और उनकी रिहाई के लिए अभियान छेड़ दिया। हफ्ते भर बाद गांधीजी की रिहाई का आदेश हो गया। यह सुन कर केलन बैक को बड़ी खुशी हुई। गांधीजी की रिहाई के दिन वह सबसे महंगी कार रॉल्स रॉयस खरीद कर जेल के बाहर खड़े हो गए। गांधीजी यह देखकर अचंभे में पड़ गए। उन्होंने पूछा,‘यह गाड़ी किसके लिए है?’ केलन ने कहा, इसमें बैठाकर आपको घर ले जाऊंगा।’ गांधीजी ने कहा,‘केलन, तुम गाड़ी से चलो। मैं पीछे-पीछे आता हूं।’ इतना कह कर वह आगे बढ़ गए। केलन बैक गांधीजी का आशय समझ गए। उन्होंने गांधीजी को रोकते हुए कहा, ‘आप थोड़ी देर इंतजार कीजिए। मैं अभी आता हूं। फिर दोनों साथ-साथ चलेंगे।’ यह कह कर केलन बैक कार के सेकंड हैंड मार्केट पहुंचे। उन्होंने पंद्रह हजार रुपये का नुकसान सह कर उस शानदार गाड़ी को उसी समय बेच डाला। इस बीच गांधीजी जेल के सामने उनकी प्रतीक्षा करते बैठे रहे। गाड़ी बेच कर पैदल ही लौटने पर केलन ने कहा,‘अब तो ठीक है न गांधीजी।’ गांधीजी ने मुस्कराकर कहा,‘हां, अब बिल्कुल ठीक है। यह मत भूलो कि हम गरीब देश के गरीब इंसान हैं। हमारी लड़ाई गरीबों के लिए है। उनके लिए ही हमें जेल जाना पड़ा। यहां हमें कुली बैरिस्टर कहा जाता है। हमें यह शोभा नहीं देता कि हम इतनी महंगी गाड़ी की सवारी करें।' इसके बाद दोनों मित्र पैदल चल कर एक घंटे में आवास पर पहुंचे।
