प्रश्न: क्या अध्यात्म में श्रद्धा आवश्यक है?

उत्तर: अध्यात्म का आधार श्रद्धा है। श्रद्धा ही है जो शिष्य में ज्ञान टिकाती है और अज्ञान से पर्दा उठाती है। जब तक साधक के भीतर श्रद्धा उत्पन्न नहीं होती तब तक साधक ज्ञान में आगे नहीं बढ़ सकता। 

यह श्रद्धा, गुरु और परमात्मा के प्रति होनी बड़ी जरूरी है। जहां से अध्यात्म का ज्ञान मिल रहा हो, उस गुरु के प्रति वृत्ति का ठहर जाना आवश्यक है। 

इसलिए गुरु के प्रति निष्ठा और विश्वास रखना होगा। फिर गुरु के वाक्य साधक के लिए सर्वोपरि हो जाते हैं। जिनको गुरु माना है उनके अलावा मन में अन्य गुरु का भाव नहीं आना चाहिए। इसलिए गुरु बनाने से पहले ही अच्छी प्रकार गुरु की तलाश कर लें, फिर जब गुरु बना लें, अब अपने मन को कहीं और भागने न दें।

जैसे पतिव्रता स्त्री अपने पति के अलावा अन्य किसी पुरुष का भाव भी मन में नहीं लाती, वैसे ही श्रद्धावान शिष्य भी अपने गुरु के अतिरिक्त अन्य किसी गुरु के प्रति अपने मन को नहीं लाता। शास्त्र कहते हैं - ‘श्रद्धावान लभते ज्ञानम’ अर्थात श्रद्धा वाला व्यक्ति ही ज्ञान को प्राप्त करता है। क्योंकि जब साधक गुरु के पास बैठकर ज्ञान सुनता है, तब यदि गुरु के प्रति उस साधक की श्रद्धा नहीं है तो वह गुरु द्वारा बोले शब्दों को उठाएगा, क्योंकि उन शब्दों में छिपा हुआ ज्ञान तो श्रद्धा ही उठाती है। इसलिए अधिकतर लोग शब्दों को उठा लेते हैं, लेकिन ज्ञान छूट जाता है। 

यदि श्रद्धा बलवती है तब गुरु के शब्द भलें याद ना रहें, लेकिन उन शब्दों का अर्थ और उनमें छिपा ज्ञान शिष्य अवश्य उठा लेता है, और कई बार तो शब्दों से परे गुरु का इशारा ही श्रद्धावान शिष्य के लिए काफी होता है। 

इसलिए गुरु के प्रति श्रद्धा को बढ़ाते जाना है। जिस शिष्य की श्रद्धा गुरु में टिक जाती है, उस शिष्य को गुरु पहचान लेते हैं फिर गुरु की उस शिष्य के प्रति विशेष कृपा होने लगती है।

'एक साधे सब सधे, सब साधे सब जाए' अर्थात जीवन में जब एक गुरु के प्रति पूर्ण समर्पण कर दिया है, तब सारा ज्ञान उसी गुरु के माध्यम से अपने जीवन में आने लगता है। लेकिन अक्सर देखा जाता है कि जिन्होंने किसी को अपना गुरु बनाया है, उनकी वृत्ति भी हिलती रहती है। 

और वो कभी न कभी किसी अन्य गुरु से मिलकर यह सोचने लगते हैं कि अच्छा होता यदि इनको गुरु बनाया होता या चलो अब गुरु बदल लेता हूँ। 

जैसे एक मंदिर में यदि मुराद पूरी ना हो तो व्यक्ति मंदिर बदल लेता है, भगवान बदल लेता है, ऐसे व्यक्ति गुरु बदल लेता है। ऐसे व्यक्ति कभी भी अध्यात्म की ऊंचाई पर नहीं पहुंच पाते।
