साधु को सीख। ..(Learned monk. . ..)

एक साधु तीर्थयात्रा करते हुए वृंदावन धाम की ओर रवाना हुए। लेकिन वृंदावन से कुछ मील पहले ही रात हो गई। उन्होंने सोचा क्यों न रात पास के गांव में बिताई जाए, सबेरे उठकर वृंदावन की ओर चल देंगे। उनका कड़ा नियम था कि वे जल भी उसी घर का ग्रहण करते थे जिसका खान-पान और आचार-विचार पवित्र हो। किसी ने उन्हें बताया कि ब्रज सीमा के इस गांव में सभी वैष्णव रहते हैं। सभी कृष्ण के परम भक्त हैं। उन्होंने गांव के एक घर के आगे खड़े होकर एक व्यक्ति से कहा,‘भाई, मुझे रात बितानी है परंतु मेरा यह नियम है कि मैं केवल शुद्ध आचार विचार वाले व्यक्ति के घर की भिक्षा और जल ग्रहण करता हूं। क्या मैं आपके घर रात भर के लिए ठहर सकता हूं?’ उस व्यक्ति ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा,‘महाराज, मैं तो नराधम हूं। मेरे सिवा अन्य सभी लोग परम वैष्णव हैं, फिर भी यदि आप मेरे घर को अपने चरणों से पवित्र करेंगे तो मैं खुद को भाग्यशाली मानूंगा।’ संत आगे बढ़ गए और दूसरे घर का दरवाजा खटखटाया। उस घर से बाहर आए व्यक्ति ने भी कहा, ‘महाराज, मैं वैष्णव नहीं, निरा अधम हूं। मेरे अलावा गांव के अन्य सभी लोग परमभक्त और वैष्णव जन हैं। जब गांव के प्रत्येक व्यक्ति ने अपने को अधम और दूसरों को वैष्णव बताया तब संत जी को यह समझते देर नहीं लगी कि अपने को औरों से दीन-हीन व छोटा समझने वाले इस गांव के सभी लोग असल में बड़े विनम्र और सच्चे वैष्णव हैं। वह एक सदगृहस्थ से बोले, ‘सज्जन आदमी, अधम तुम नहीं मैं ही हूं। आज तुम्हारे घर का अन्न-जल ग्रहण कर मैं स्वयं पवित्र हो जाऊंगा।’ संत को शिक्षा मिल गई.
