कृष्ण मथुरा चले गए और काफी दिनों तक वापस नहीं लौटे। गोपियों ने कृष्ण के विरह में व्याकुल होकर उन्हें वापस बुलाने के लिए बार-बार संदेश भेजा। लेकिन कृष्ण ने स्वयं न आकर अपने सखा उद्धव को गोपियों के पास ये संदेश कहलाने के लिए भेजा कि वे कृष्ण को भूलकर निर्गुण ब्रह्म का ध्यान करने लगें। उद्धव गोपियों को निर्गुण ब्रह्म का उपदेश देते हैं, लेकिन वह गोपियां समझ ही नहीं पातीं। 

सूरदास द्वारा रचित सूरसागर के भ्रमरगीत प्रसंग में एक पद है -‘हरि हैं राजनीति पढ़ि आए।’ गोपियां कटाक्ष करती हैं कि अब कृष्ण ने राजनीति सीख ली है, इसलिए वे गोपाल, माखनचोर या गोपियों से प्रेम करने वाले सीधे -साधे कान्हा नहीं रहे। कृष्ण वैसे भी पहले ही कहां कम चतुर-चालाक थे जो मक्खन ही नहीं, गोपियों का दिल तक चुराने की कला में प्रवीण थे। लेकिन अब तो उन्होंने राजनीति का सबसे बड़ा ग्रंथ पढ़ लिया है। अब उनकी समझ विकसित हो गई है, अब वे खुद न मिलकर अपने दूत के माध्यम से हमें योग का संदेश भेजने लगे हैं। शब्दों के मायाजाल से भ्रमित करने की कला में प्रवीण हो चुके हैं। पहले के लोग ऐसे नहीं होते थे। वे दूसरों के हित के लिए बेचैन रहते थे। गोपियां शिकायत भरे लहजे में कहती हैं कि वह कृष्ण जिन्होंने मथुरा के लोगों को कंस के अत्याचारों से मुक्ति दिलवाई, हम पर क्यों अत्याचार करने पर तुले हैं? एक ओर किसी को अत्याचार मुक्त कराना और दूसरी ओर किसी पर अत्याचार करना कहां की नीति है? कैसा राजधर्म है? ये गोपियां कहती हैं - राज धरम तौ यहै ‘सूर’ जो प्रजा न जाहिं सताए। राजधर्म यानी राजा का कर्त्तव्य तो यही है कि वह आम जन को अत्याचार से बचाए। उसके राज्य में किसी के साथ भेद-भाव न हो। 

आज ऐसा कुछ नहीं हो रहा है। राजनीति प्रजा की सेवा या अत्याचार से मुक्ति दिलाने का नहीं, अपनी ही सेवा कराने और आम आदमी को बदहाली में बनाए रखने का माध्यम बन गई है। देश का मजदूर और किसान बदहाल है, शिक्षित युवा बेरोजगार है। भ्रष्टाचार चरम पर है, प्रदूषण की समस्या भयावह हो रही है। ऐसे में ऊलजलूल मुद्दे उछालकर क्या मूल मुद्दों से ध्यान विचलित नहीं किया जा रहा? 

कभी लोग सेवा के उद्देश्य से राजनीति में आते थे। आज राजनीति व्यापार बन चुकी है। आज सफल राजनीतिज्ञ वह है जो जनता को नहीं, अपनी पार्टी को मजबूत बनाने में सक्षम हो। आज किसानों व महिलाओं की बदहाली और आत्म हत्याएं नेताओं को विचलित नहीं करतींं। प्रजा के लिए सुरक्षा और न्याय पाना तो दूर, उसकी बात करना भी बेमानी है। ऐसे में राजधर्म की सुध किसको होगी। आग जरूरत है नेता बनने  की नहीं, जन-सेवक बनने की.
