मनुष्य हमेशा से ही आने वाले कल के भरोसे आज से भागता रहा है। परंतु कब तक कल के भरोसे अपने वर्तमान से भागेंगे अथवा ऐसा करते रहेंगे? क्या कल ने कभी किसी का साथ दिया है? कल का आगमन कभी हुआ भी है क्या? कल तो एक अंतहीन प्रतीक्षा है, एक भरोसा है। एक ऐसी आशा, एक ऐसा छलावा, एक ऐसा भविष्य है, जिसके सहारे कुछ समय तक जिया जा सकता है। कल को जानकर भी आप कल के लिए क्यों आज को खोना चाहते हैं। यह मानव स्वभाव की एक मृगमरीचिका है, जिससे निजात पाए बिना हम अधिक बेहतर की उम्मीद नहीं कर सकते। कल अगर जीवन की आशा है तो जीवन का मृत्युवाहक भी है। कल अगर भाग्य है, तो अभाग्य का घर भी है। कल हमेशा संशयात्मक है। आने वाले कल से आज से वे ही मुक्त हो सकते हैं, जिनमें चेतनता है, सजगता है, जो क्रियाशक्ति और ज्ञानशक्ति का विकास कर आत्मदर्शन करना चाहते हैं। हम अक्सर अपने आस-पास के वातावरण पर ध्यान नहीं देते हैं, परंतु वस्तुत: हर कोई हमें उपयोग करने का प्रयास करता है। जीवन के सारे रिश्ते-नाते और उससे जुड़े सांसारिक संबंध हमें स्मृतियों का ऐसा संसार देते हैं, जो प्रायश्चित और पश्चाताप की अग्नि से हमें तपाते हैं। 1योगी हमेशा समाधि में भी तो नहीं रह सकता। मृत्यु जब भी आती है - संस्कार लेकर, प्रारब्ध बनकर और कर्मफल की क्रमश: गति बनकर। सब धोखा दे सकते हैं, परंतु मृत्यु कभी नहीं। अगर मृत्यु की तरह हर कोई वफादार हो जाए, तो जिंदगी कभी बेवफा नहीं हो सकती। अफसोस यह सब जानकर और समझकर भी लोग एक-दूसरे से आगे बढ़ने की होड़ में लगे हुए हैं। उस व्यक्ति का वर्तमान भी ठीक रहेगा, जो ठहर गया है। उसके लिए न तो वर्तमान में कोई उत्सव है, और न ही कल का शोक। बुद्ध पुरुषों के आत्मज्ञान की दुनिया में कोई संशय नहीं, कोई तर्क नहीं, आगे बढ़ जाने की कोई होड़ नहीं, आवागमन का कोई भय नहीं, छल-प्रपंच के लिए कोई जगह नहीं होती। आज ही प्रयास करें, कल के भरोसे न रहें। स्वयं के अस्तित्व की तलाश में जुटें। स्थितप्रज्ञ बनने का प्रयास करें। यही जीवन का सच्चा रूपांतरण होगा।
