एक दुकानदार भविष्य को लेकर आशंकित रहता था। शाम को जब वह दुकान से घर लौटता तो भविष्य की संभावित कठिनाइयों को लेकर तिल का ताड़ बनाने लगता। घर के सभी लोगों, खासकर उसकी पत्नी को इससे बहुत परेशानी होती। धीरे-धीरे पत्नी समझ गई कि बेवजह नकारात्मक चिंतन में घुलते रहने की वजह से उसके पति की यह हालत हो रही है। पत्नी ने उसे सुधारने के लिए एक नाटक रचा। एक दिन वह चारपाई पर रोनी सूरत बनाकर पड़ गई। उसने घर का कोई काम भी नहीं किया। शाम को दुकानदार जब घर आया और पत्नी को चारपाई पर लेटे देखा तो उसकी चिंता बढ़ गई। उसने पत्नी से उदासी का कारण पूछा। इस पर पत्नी बोली, 'नगर में एक पहुंचे हुए ज्योतिषी पधारे हैं। लोग कहते हैं कि वे त्रिकालदर्शी हैं और उनका कहा कभी झूठ नहीं होता। पड़ोसन की सलाह पर आज मैं भी उनसे मिलने गई थी। उन्होंने मेरा हाथ देखकर बताया कि मैं सत्तर बरस तक जियूंगी। मैं यह सोच-सोचकर परेशान हूं कि सत्तर बरस में मैं कितना अनाज खा जाऊंगी...’ यह सुनकर दुकानदार उसे समझाते हुए बोला - 'अरी बावरी, यह सब एक दिन में थोड़े ही होगा। समय के साथ आने और खर्च होने का काम चलता रहेगा। तू व्यर्थ ही चिंता करती है।’ यह सुनकर पत्नी ने तुरंत कहा -'आप भी तो रोज भविष्य के बारे में सोच-सोचकर खुद भी परेशान होते हैं और हमें भी परेशान करते हैं। ऐसा क्यों नहीं सोचते कि समयानुसार यदि समस्याएं आएंगी, तो उनका हल भी निकालते रहेंगे।’ दुकानदार को अपनी भूल समझ में आ गई। उसने अपनी दुविधा दूर करने के लिए पत्नी को धन्यवाद दिया।
