एक स्वामीजी सत्संग के लिए पधारे। लोगों ने प्रवचन देने का आग्रह किया तो स्वामीजी ने कहा, ‘मैं क्या बोलूं, आप सब जानते हैं। जो अच्छा है उसे करो और जो बुरा है उसे मत करो, उसे त्याग दो।’ लोगों में से एक स्वर उभरा, ‘स्वामीजी, हम सब बहुत अच्छे बनना चाहते हैं और इसके लिए यथासंभव प्रयास भी करते हैं, लेकिन फिर भी हम सबसे अच्छे तो दूर अच्छे भी नहीं बन पाते, ऐसा क्यों?’ स्वामीजी ने कहा, ‘हम अपने ऊपर जैसी मोहर लगाते हैं वैसा ही तो बनेंगे।’ लोगों ने प्रार्थना की कि स्वामीजी इसे स्पष्ट करें। 

स्वामीजी ने जेब से तीन नोट निकाले और पूछा, ‘ये कितने-कितने के नोट हैं?’ एक नोट दस रुपये का था, दूसरा सौ रुपये का और तीसरा हजार का। इसके बाद स्वामीजी ने पूछा कि इनमें क्या अंतर है? लोग चुप थे। स्वामीजी ने समझाया, ‘ये तीनों नोट एक जैसे कागज पर छपे हैं। कागज के पहले टुकड़े से दस रुपये की चीज खरीदी जा सकती है, दूसरे से सौ रुपये की और तीसरे से हजार की। ये कागज पर लगी मोहर या छाप द्वारा निर्धारित हुआ है।’

हमारा जीवन भी एक कोरे कागज की तरह ही है। हम चाहें तो उस पर दस रुपये के बराबर छोटी-मोटी विशेषता या गुण की मोहर लगा सकते हैं और चाहें तो हजार रुपये या उससे भी अधिक की कीमत के गुणों की मोहर लगा सकते हैं। जैसी छाप या सोच वैसा जीवन। इस संसार रूपी छापे खाने में मन रूपी कागज पर केवल सात्विक व जीवनोपयोगी उच्च विचारों की मोहर लगाकर ही जीवन को हर प्रकार की उत्कृष्टता प्रदान की जा सकती है। जिसकी सोच ऊंची और सकारात्मक होती है, वह अभाव को भी भाव तथा दुःख को भी सुख में बदलने में सफल हो सकता है। जिसका विचार निषेधात्मक होता है, वह सुख को भी दुःख में परिवर्तित कर देता है।

हर व्यक्ति में गुण और अवगुण दोनों होते हैं। हमारा चिंतन गुणों की ओर केंद्रित रहना चाहिए। इसमें हमें शांति और प्रसन्नता का अनुभव होगा। निराशावादी और अवगुणवादी मनुष्य अपने चारों ओर अभावों और दोषों के दर्शन करते हैं। वे अपने जीवन में शांति और प्रसन्नता का अनुभव कभी नहीं कर सकते। जो अभाव को भाव तथा दुःख को सुख में बदलने की कला जानता है, उसी का जीना सार्थक है, वही सच्चा धार्मिक है, विद्वान है। 

सफलता और सार्थक जीवन जीने के लिए सात्विक एवं ऊंची सोच बहुत जरूरी है। जिसकी सोच संकीर्ण होती है, वह सफलता का जीवन जी नहीं सकता। घड़ा बनने की जो प्रक्रिया है, वह खुदाई से लेकर आग में तपने तक की प्रक्रिया है। मिट्टी से सीधे ही घड़ा नहीं बन सकता। उसके लिए निर्धारित विधि का अनुसरण करना होगा। यही प्रक्रिया सोच को व्यापक बनाने पर भी लागू होती है।
