पुराणों में भी उल्लेखित है कि, 'जब श्री कृष्ण का स्वर्गवास हुआ तब कलयुग का आगमन हुआ, इसके अनुसार कृष्ण जन्म 4,500 से 3,102 ई. पूर्व के बीच मानना ठीक रहेगा। इस गणना को सत्यापित करने वाली खोज मोहनजोदाड़ो सभ्यता के विषय में 1929 में हुई।'

इतिहासकार ई.जे.एच. मैके द्वारा मोहनजोदाड़ो में हुए उत्खनन में एक प्राचीन भित्तिचित्र मिला जिसमें दो वृक्षों के बीच खड़े एक बच्चे का चित्र बना हुआ था, जो हमें भागवत आदि पुराणों में लिखे कृष्ण द्वारा यमलार्जुन के उद्धार की कथा के ओर ले जाता है।

इसके अनुसार महाभारत का युद्ध 3000 ई. पूर्व हुआ होगा जो पुराणों की गणना में सटीक बैठता है। इससे भगवान कृष्ण के जन्म का सटीक अंदाजा मिलता है।
