आज हर व्यक्ति अनीति से अर्जित धन के संग्रह को ही जीवन की सफलता मान बैठा है। विडंबना तो यह है कि ऐसे ही व्यक्ति प्रशंसा भी पा रहे हैं। जबकि जरूरत इस बात की है कि प्रशंसा नीति की हो, सफलता की नहीं। ऐसा इसलिए, क्योंकि अनीति की सफलता के लिए व्यक्ति ने कितना झूठ बोला है, कितनी रिश्वत दी है, कितने गरीबों का पेट काटा है, कितनी मिलावट की है, यह कोई नहीं देखता, परंतु आज ऐसे लोगों की सफलता के आगे हम सिर झुकाते हैं, क्योंकि उन्होंने धन अर्जित किया है। समाज को उन्नत और खुशहाल बनाने के लिए जरूरी है कि हम कोरी नीति की बात ही नहीं करें, बल्कि उसे जीकर भी दिखाएं। यदि नीति पर चलते हुए किसी कारणवश असफलता मिलती है तो वह भी कम गौरव की बात नहीं है कि व्यक्ति ने जो प्रयास किए उसमें झूठ या छल-कपट आदि का सहारा नहीं लिया। यह अवश्य है कि जीवन में सफलता नहीं मिलने पर हमारा भौतिक जीवन कुछ असुविधापूर्ण हो सकता है, पर नीति का त्याग कर देने से तो लोक-परलोक, आत्म संतोष, चरित्र, धर्म, कर्तव्य और लोकहित सभी कुछ नष्ट हो जाता है। अनीति से प्राप्त सफलता अंतत: हमारे पतन का ही कारण बनती है। जब हमारे कुकर्मो का भांडा फूटता है तो कोई साथ नहीं देता।  साधारणत: प्राय: सभी महान पुरुषों का जीवन अत्यंत अविरत परिश्रम का होता है। जिंदगी का पहला आधा भाग वह गरीबी और परिश्रम में बिताते हैं। लोगों का ध्यान उनकी ओर जाता ही नहीं। जब लोग नींद में सपने देखते होते हैं, तब वे वर्तमान की परिस्थिति में से रास्ता निकालकर भविष्य के महान व्यक्ति बनने का मार्ग ढूंढ़ते रहते हैं। उनकी अंतरात्मा उनसे यही कहा करती है कि आप जगत के इस उपेक्षित कूड़े में हमेशा नहीं रह सकते। आप एक दिन जरूर चमकेंगे। ऐसे ही महात्मा गांधी और विनोबा अहिंसा और सवरेदय के विचार को लेकर चमके थे। गुरु वल्लभ, आचार्य श्री तुलसी और आचार्य श्री महाप्रज्ञ अहिंसा और स्वस्थ समाज निर्माण के कार्यक्रमों को लेकर चमके हैं, लेकिन चमकने की यह परंपरा सिकुड़ती जा रही है। इस पर व्यापक चिंतन की जरूरत है। चिंतन की ओर अग्रसर होते हुए हमें जो सूत्र हाथ लगेंगे उनमें एक सूत्र है- अर्थसंपन्नता को सफलता का मुख्य आधार बनाने की हमारी त्रुटिपूर्ण सोच।
