युग,देश ,काल, समाज रीति-रिवाज़ आदि के प्रभाव से मनुष्य अपने को अलग नहीं रख सकता है। इन सबका प्रभाव तो पड़ना ही है। यह मनुष्य के अपने विवेक पर निर्भर करता है कि वह परिस्थितियों को अपने अनुकूल बना ले और उसी में खुशी के कुछ पल ढ़ूँढ़ ले। हमारे संत-ऋषि-मुनी भविष्य द्रष्टा थे। उन्हें यह आभास था कि आगे क्या घटित होने वाला है ? जीवन की वास्तविकता क्या है ? इसी के आधार पर वे अपने जीवन को ढालकर वास्तविक सुख का आनंद उठाते थे और दूसरों के सुख की राह आसान कर देते थे।
कलियुग के विषय मे मृत्य पुराण में लिखा है कि जीव हिंसा, चोरी, छल कपट, मिथ्या आडंबर, असत्य, धर्म का विनाश आदि इसके स्वाभाविक गुण हैं । कलियुग में प्रयत्न के बावजूद मन में शंका बनी रहती है कि जीविका की आपूर्ति होगी या नहीं ? अकाल महामारी की वृद्धि होती है, मनुष्य का बल, रूप, बुद्धि क्षीण हो जाती है।
संत तुलसी दास जी ने तो मानस में कलियुग का बहुत सुन्दर वर्णन किया है-
मारग सोइ जा कहुँ जोइ भावा।पंडितसोइ जो गाल बजावा ।।
मिथ्यारंभ दंभ रत जोई। ता कहुँ संत कहइ सब कोई।।
जिसको जो अच्छा लगे वही मार्ग है। जो डींग मारता है, वहीं पंडित, जो आडम्बर रचे वही संत , जो दूसरों का धन हरले वही बुद्धिमान जो अमंगल वेष धारण करे भक्ष्य-अभक्ष्य सब कुछ खाए वही जोगी और सिद्ध पुरुष कहलाता है।
शिष्य और गुरु में बहरे और अंधे का हिसाब होता है। लोग थोड़े लाभ के लिए स्वजन और गुरु की हत्या कर देते हैं तथा पराई स्ञी में आसक्त, कपट में चतुर, मोह और ममता में लिपटे हुए होते हैं। कलिकाल ने लोगो को ऐसा बेहाल कर डाला है कि कोई बहन-बेटी का विचार नहीं करता। लोगो मे न संतोष रह गया है न विवेक। सच कहा जाय तो कलियुग पाप और अवगुणों का घर है। यह समय की देन ही है कि हम आज अपने पुराने आदर्श रीति रिवाज नैतिकता सदाचार को छोड़ पाश्चात्य सभ्यता को अपनाते जा रहे हैं या यूँ कहिए कि पश्चिमी सभ्यता का लबादा ओढ कर गौरवान्वित हो रहें हैं। पश्चिमी सभ्यता हमेशा अर्थ प्रधान रही है जिससे आदमी भोग विलासिता पूर्ण जीवन जीना चाहता है। भौतिकता और भोग की वजह से ही हमारा जीवन अत्यधिक खर्चीला एवं आडम्बर पूर्ण होता जा रहा है और मनुष्य पतन की ओर बढ कर अपनी शाँन्ति सुख चैन सब कुछ अपने हाथो हीं नष्ट कर रहा है।
ऐसा नहीं है कि हमारी संस्कृति भौतिकता एवं भोग के विरुद्ध हो पर इसके साथ धर्म अवश्य जुडा है। धर्म ही हमें स्वेछाचारी बनने और अनैतिक कर्मो में लिप्त होने से रोकता है और सुख शाँन्ति की राह दिखाता है। यदि हम सनातन धर्म की तरफ़ निगाह डालें तो पाएंगे कि अहिंसा , जीवों पर दया , क्षमा, करुणा , दया, पवित्रता, ब्रह्मचर्य, निर्लोभता, परोपकार,त्याग आदि सभी सनातन धर्म के मूल है। भोग विलास से क्षणिक तुष्टि तो हो सकती है परन्तु संतुष्टि कभी नहीं मिल सकती भोग या काम वासना को जितना भोगने की कोशिश की जाय उतना ही वह ठीक उसी प्रकार बढ़ती जाएगी जैसे हवन में घी डालने से आग बढ़ती जाती है।
मनुष्य जीवन का उद्देश्य क्या है ? हमे मनुष्य जीवन क्यों मिला है ? जीवन में सुख शाँन्ति कैसे मिलेगी ?ये ऐसे प्रश्न हैं जिनके उत्तर मनुष्य को जानने चाहिए । हमारा यह जीवन केवल रोजी रोटी या भोग विलास के लिए नहीं बना है। भय , भूख , मैथुन और निद्रा तो पशु पक्षी सभी में है। यदि हमारा आचरण भी वैसा ही बना रहे तो उनमें और हममें फ़र्क़ ही क्या ?
जीवन निर्वाह के लिए जितनी भी चीजे आवश्यक हैं वह भगवान द्वारा बिना भेदभाव के और बिना माँगे प्रचुर माञा में उपलब्ध हैं ।यह हमारा लोभ और स्वार्थ ही है कि हमने जरूरत से ज्यादा संग्रह की प्रवृत्ति पाल ली है । यही वजह है जिससे कुछ लोगों के पास तीन चार पुश्तों तक न समाप्त होने वाला धन का अथाह भंडार है तो कुछ लोग अभाव में दम तोड देते हैं ।यही मानवता का सबसे बडा कलंक है और इस कलंक को ढोने में भी हम शर्म की जगह अहंकार बस अपने को गौरवान्वित करते हैं । इससे तो अच्छे वे पशु पक्षी हैं जो आज की भूख मिटा कर कल के लिए निश्चिंत रहते हैं। आज नैतिक या अनैतिक किसी भी प्रकार से भौतिक सुख सुविधा जुटाना , अकूत धन संग्रह करना ही जीवन का लक्ष्य बन गया है यह जानते हुए भी कि काम्य वस्तु के उपयोग से वासना की निवृत्ति नहीं होती।
मनुष्य यदि अहँकार रहित होकर अपने को , ईश्वर को, धर्म को भली भांति समझ ले तो भ्रम रूपी बादल छट जाऐगे और ज्ञान रूपी प्रकाश सर्वत्र फ़ैल जाएगा फ़िर समझते देर नहीं लगेगी कि जीवन एक सिक्के के दो पहलू के रूप में है। जहाँ जीवन है वहीं मौत भी मुँह बाये खडी है। जहाँ शुभ है वहीं अशुभ भी।जहाँ दुःख होगा वहाँ सुख भी। एक के बगैर दूसरे का अस्तित्व रहेगा हीं नहीं यही प्रकृति का नियम है। एक आदमी को खूब भूख लगती है पर खाने को कुछ नहीं है वहीं जिसके पास खाना प्रचुर माञा में है उसे परहेज करना पड़ता है। एक व्यक्ति धनाढ्य है । सारे भौतिक सुख हैं पर चिंताओ से मुक्त नहीं हो पाता एक के पास कल के लिए कुछ नहीं है पर चैन की नीद सोता है। ऐसा क्यो है ? इसलिए कि जो जन्म लिया है उसे मरना पडेगा ।जिसे सुख चाहिए उसे दुःख उठाना ही पडेगा।
यदि जीवन को सुखमय बनाना है तो स्वार्थ का मार्ग छोड कर त्याग के मार्ग पर चलना चाहिए। पैसे से यदि सुख खरीदा जा सकता तो तमाम धन कुबेर चैन की बाँसुरी बजाते मिलते पर वास्तविकता ठीक इसके विपरीत हीं नजर आएगी। लोभ , क्रोध, अहंकार , घृणा , तृष्णा , वैमनस्य को पाल कर सुख शाँति की उम्मीद करना ब्यर्थ है। मन में संतोष हो, ईश्वर में विश्वास हो और बल तथा पुरषार्थ परहित में लगा रहे हैं तो प्रसन्नता और सुख शांति हमेशा दासी बनी रहेगी। त्याग और पर हित से बढ़कर सुख का कोई साधन है ही नहीं । भोग विलास दुख के कारक हैं उनमें सुख की कल्पना ही व्यर्थ है।
