व्यक्ति कितना भी ऊंचा क्यों न हो अभिमान उसका नाश कर देता है....(The person might be how high His hubris destroyed ....)

जब व्यक्ति अपार धन-दौलत और आलीशान भवनों का मालिक हो जाता है तो वह स्वयं को औरों से अलग महसूस करने लगता है। ऊंचेपन की भावना के कारण वह किसी को कुछ नहीं समझता। यही भाव अभिमान है जो उसके रोम-रोम से दिखाई देता है। इस स्थिति में शेष लोग उसके लिए अवशेष हो जाते हैं।

सिक्खों के पंचम गुरु अर्जन देव जी ने अपनी रचना में ऐसे लोगों को मूर्ख, अंधा व अज्ञानी माना है। जब ऐसी स्थिति आ जाती है तो वह अराजक होकर अत्याचार पर उतारू हो जाता है। गरीब और कमजोर उसके शिकार होते हैं। गुरु अर्जन देव ने अपने समय में ऐसे अत्याचारों को देखा और सामना भी किया। उनके अनुसार व्यक्ति कितना भी ऊंचा क्यों न हो जाए, अभिमान उसका नाश करके ही छोड़ता है। हृदय में गरीबी यानी विनम्रता का वास जरूरी है। इससे सारे लोकों में सुखों की प्राप्ति होती है। उन्होंने इन पवित्र विचारों को अपनी कालजयी रचना ‘सुखमनी साहिब’ में यूं लिखा है - ‘जिस कै हिरदै गरीबी बसावै। नानक ईहा मुकतु आगै सुखु पावै।’

वास्तव में अभिमान निर्माण का नहीं, विनाश का लक्षण है। व्यक्ति स्वयं को महत्ता देने लगता है। अपनी अराजकता से वह आस-पास के लोगों को भी संक्रमित कर देता है। इसी आग में विकास डूबकर विनाश में परिवर्तित हो जाता है। प्राचीन काल में रावण, कंस, कौरव आदि अभिमान के ही मिथ्या जाल में फंसे थे। धार्मिक हों या राजनीतिक, आज भी कई समूह उसी राह पर बढ़ रहे हैं। अभिमान इन्हें गिरावट का ही ग्राफ दिखा रहा है, बढ़ने का नहीं। 

गुरु अर्जन देव के अनुसार अगर ऐसे विनाशकारी भाव से बचना है तो अपने आचार-व्यवहार में नम्रता को प्रथम स्थान देना होगा। उन्होंने आगे नम्रता को लाने का उपाय भी बताया है। अमीरी हो या गरीबी, हर हाल में व्यक्ति को उस अकाल शक्ति के निकट स्वयं को महसूस करना चाहिए - ‘सदा निकटि निकटि हरि जानु।’ 

हर मनुष्य का कर्तव्य बनता है कि जिस अकाल शक्ति से उसकी उत्पत्ति हुई है वह स्वयं को उसके साथ जुड़ा रखे। यह भाव व्यक्ति को ईश्वर के प्रति कृतज्ञ होना सिखाता है, जिससे विनम्रता का जन्म होता है। इस भाव के आ जाने से व्यक्ति जितनी भी सुख-सुविधाओं से घिरा रहे, अभिमान उसे छू नहीं सकता। इस विनम्रता का अर्थ यह कदापि नहीं कि हम अत्याचार और शोषण सहते जाएं। अर्जन देव के अनुसार उस परमशक्ति से स्वयं को एकाकार करने से ‘निरभउ’ व ‘निरवैर’ अर्थात् निडरता व अशत्रुता का भाव पैदा होता है जो गलत शक्ति के आगे झुकने से बचाती है। इसलिए अभिमान छोड़, विनम्रता की राह चलें।
