कोयल और कौआ..(Cuckoo & Crow..)

 

संस्कृत साहित्य की यह चर्चित कथा है। एक बार वसंत ऋतु में एक कोयल वृक्ष पर बैठी कूक रही थी। आते-जाते लोग उसकी कूक को सुनते और उसकी सुरीली आवाज का आनंद लेते हुए उसकी तारीफ के पुल बांधते। कुछ देर बाद कोयल के सामने एक कौआ तेज गति से आया। कोयल ने उससे पूछा, ‘इतनी तेज गति से कहां जा रहे हो? कुछ देर बैठो, बातें करते हैं।’ कौए ने उत्तर दिया कि वह जरा जल्दी में है और देश को छोड़कर परदेस जा रहा है। कोयल ने इसका कारण पूछा तो कौआ बोला, ‘यहां के लोग बहुत खराब हैं। सब तुम्हें ही चाहते हैं। सभी लोग सिर्फ तुम्हारा आदर करते हैं। वह यही चाहते हैं कि तुम हमेशा की तरह इसी प्रकार से उनके क्षेत्र में गाती रहो। वहीं जहां तक मेरी बात है तो मुझे कोई देखना तक नहीं चाहता। यहां तक कि मैं किसी की मुंडेर पर बैठता हूं तो मुझे कंकड़ मारकर वहां से भगा दिया जाता है। मेरी आवाज भी कोई नहीं सुनना चाहता। जहां मेरा अपमान हो, मैं ऐसे स्थान पर एक क्षण भी नहीं रहना चाहता। ज्ञानियों ने भी हमें यही शिक्षा दी है कि अपमान की जगह पर नहीं रहना चाहिए।’ यह सुनकर कोयल बोली, ‘परदेस जाता चाहते हो तो बड़े शौक से जाओ। यह पूरी तरह से तुम्हारी इच्छा पर निर्भर है। लेकिन एक बाद का सदैव ध्यान रखना कि वहां जाने से पहले अपनी आवाज को बदल लेना। अपनी वाणी को मधुर बना लेना। यदि तुम्हारी वाणी ठीक वैसी ही कठोर रही, जैसी यहां पर है तो परदेस में भी लोग तुम्हारे साथ वही व्यवहार करेंगे जो अभी हो रहा है। संसार जो है, जैसा भी है, उसे बदला नहीं जा सकता। लेकिन हम अपनी दृष्टि और वाणी को बदल सकते हैं। इन दोनों के बदलने से जीवन की दिशा और दशा, दोनों बदल जाती है और यहीं से संसार में आनंद और सुख की प्राप्ति शुरू होती है।’
