इंसानियत पहला धर्म ..(Humane first religion..)

राजा प्रतिदिन रात के समय यह देखने को घूमते थे कि कहीं कोई अधिकारी प्रजा को सता तो नहीं रहा, कोई दुखी तो नहीं या कोई लुटेरा तो नहीं घूम रहा है। ऐसे ही एक रात को घूमते हुए वे नदी किनारे जा पहुंचे। उन्होंने देखा वहां एक युवक लेटा हुआ है। राजा ने पास जाकर पूछा, ‘तुम कौन हो?’ युवक एक अजनबी को इतनी रात गए घोड़े पर देखकर सहम गया। फिर बोला, ‘मैं लक्ष्मी का दामाद हूं। अपनी पत्नी को लेने जा रहा हूं। पर मुझे इतना जोर का बुखार चढ़ गया है कि मैं एक कदम भी नहीं चल सकता। रात भर यहां आराम कर लूं तो सबेरे चलने लायक हो जाऊंगा।’ राजा ने उसके माथे पर हाथ रखा तो वास्तव में वह तप रहा था। राजा ने कहा, ‘जाड़े के दिन हैं, यहां अकेले में रहना ठीक नहीं है। तुम ऐसा करो कि मेरे साथ चलो, मैं तुम्हें पहुंचा देता हूं।’ राजा भेस बदले हुए थे, इसलिए युवक उन्हें पहचान नहीं सका। वह थोड़ा हिचकिचाया, पर राजा ने संकोच न करने की सलाह देते हुए उसे उठाकर बैठाया और बोले, ‘तुम बीमार हो, घोड़े पर बैठ जाओ। मैं साथ-साथ घोड़े की लगाम पकड़े चलता हूं।’ सहारा देकर उन्होंने युवक को घोड़े पर बैठा लिया। रास्ते में उन्होंने मालूम कर लिया कि वह राजमहल में काम करने वाली लक्ष्मी का दामाद है। राजा उसे लेकर लक्ष्मी के घर जा पहुंचे। दरवाजा खटखटाकर उन्होंने लक्ष्मी को आवाज दी। दरवाजा खोलते ही लक्ष्मी ने जो दृश्य देखा, उससे वह अपनी आंखों पर भी विश्वास नहीं कर सकी। वह तुरंत राजा के पैरों पर गिर पड़ी और क्षमा मांगने लगी। राजा ने कहा, ‘देखो लक्ष्मी, तुम यह क्यों भूल जाती हो कि मैं राजा बाद में हूं और इंसान उससे पहले हूं। इंसान के नाते इंसानियत मेरा पहला धर्म है।’ ऐसी इंसानियत जिनमें कूट-कूट कर भरी थी, वह थे जम्मू कश्मीर के महाराजा प्रताप सिंह।
