कैसी विसंगति है कि जिस जीवन को सुंदर बनाने के लिए हमने शिक्षा ली थी, वही जीवन बहुत पीछे छूट गया और हम सिर्फ एक ही विषय को लेकर आगे बढ़ते गए, क्योंकि हमने कभी जीवनशास्त्र तो पढ़ा ही नहीं। यदि हमें जीवन को सुंदर और सुखद बनाने वाले विषयों का ज्ञान नहीं हुआ, तो फिर हमारी शिक्षा तो अधूरी ही रह गई। इसलिए हमें यह प्रयास करना चाहिए कि वे सब विषय जो हमारे जीवन को प्रोत्साहित कर सकते हैं, हमें प्रेरणा दे सकते हैं और जीवन को समझने में हमारी मदद कर सकते हैं, उन्हें हम ग्रहण करें। यदि मकान मेरा है या फिर गाड़ी मेरी है, तो उसमें होने वाली गड़बड़ी की जानकारी भी हमें होनी ही चाहिए, नहीं तो हमारी दशा उस व्यक्ति जैसी होगी, जो गाड़ी में बैठकर भी गियर बदलने के अर्थ से बिल्कुल अनभिज्ञ हो। हमने कहीं सुना है कि एक व्यक्ति जो काफी बड़े थे, गाड़ी में बैठकर कहीं जा रहे थे, जब उन्हें गाड़ी के रुक-रुक कर चलने का पता चला तो उन्होंने ड्राइबर से पूछा-क्यों भाई! तुम क्या कर रहे हो, गाड़ी ऐसे क्यों चल रही है? ड्राइवर ने उत्तर दिया - हुजूर जरा गियर बदल रहा था। ड्राइवर की यह बात सुनकर वे आपे से बाहर हो गए-तुम्हारी इतनी हिम्मत! जब तुम मेरे सामने ही गियर बदल रहे हो, तो मेरे पीछे तो पूरी गाड़ी ही बदल दोगे।  इसका अर्थ यह हुआ कि उस व्यक्ति को इतनी भी समझ नहीं थी कि गाड़ी चलाने के लिए गियर बदलने भी पड़ते हैं। आशय यह कि यदि हमें हर विषय को थोड़ी-बहुत जानकारी भी नहीं है तो हमारा विशद गणित ज्ञान या फिर भाषाज्ञान हमारे जीवन को सुंदर और सुखी नहीं बना सकता। इसलिए यह आवश्यक है कि हमें जीवन और जगत् के विविध विषयों का कम से कम प्रारंभिक ज्ञान भी अवश्य हो, तभी हमारा विषयगत गंभीर ज्ञान भी सार्थक माना जाएगा और तभी हमारी शिक्षा भी पूरी कहला सकेगी। दुनिया में किसी भी व्यक्ति को काम करने के लिए 26 घंटे नहीं, बल्कि मात्र 24 घंटे ही मिलते हैं। दुनिया में जितने भी महान व्यक्ति हुए हैं, चाहे वे साहित्यकार हों या फिर राजनेता हों, या फिर समाज सेवक आदि हों, ये सभी अपनी व्यस्त दिनचर्या में से ही पढ़ने का वक्त निकालते हैं। कहने का आशय यह है कि जो शख्स जितना व्यस्त होता है, उसके पास सार्थक बातों के लिए उतना ही वक्त होता है।
