ऐसी दशा में स्वाभाविक ही था की बुद्धिवाद ईश्वर के अस्तित्व को अस्वीकार करता। प्रकृति की क्रम व्यवस्था सुनियोजित है ऐसा तो माना गया पर उसे स्वसंचालित कहकर संतोष कर लिया गया। इसके लिए किसी स्रष्टा का हाथ हो सकता है इस बात से शोधकर्ताओं ने इंकार कर दिया।

नास्तिकवाद की प्रचंड लहर इसी वैज्ञानिक इंकारो से उत्पन्न हुई और आंधी-तूफ़ान की तरह बौद्धिक जगत पर अपना अधिकार जमाती गयी। पिछले दिनों ईश्वर की अस्वीकृति प्रगतिशीलता का चिन्ह बनकर उभरता रहा है।

लेकिन विज्ञान ने कभी भी ईश्वर के अस्तित्व को नाकारा भी नहीं है। उसने केवल इतना ही कहा की अनुसंधान प्रक्रिया की पकड़ में ऐसी सत्ता नहीं आती। अब प्रश्न यह उठता है की चमत्कारों से भरी इस सृष्टि का संचालन सुसंबद्धता पूर्वक अनायास चल रहा है क्या?

अणु से लेकर सौर मंडलों तक का छोटा बड़ा प्रत्येक घटक अपने निर्धारित कर्त्तव्य उत्तरदायित्व को तत्परता पूर्वक पूर्ण कर रहा है। एक के बाद एक प्रमाण इस स्तर के मिल रहे है जिनसे इस ब्रह्माण्ड में एक व्यापक चेतन तत्व का समुद्र भरा हुआ सिद्ध होता है। तो फिर ईश्वर है क्या, इसके लिए प्रसिद्घ वैज्ञानिक न्यूटन के एक संवाद को यहां जानना जरूरी है।
