Painter's generosity ..(चित्रकार की उदारता..)

एक बार इंग्लैंड की रॉयल अकादमी के हॉल को उत्कृष्ट चित्रों से सजाने की योजना बनाई गई। इसके लिए देश-विदेश के बेहतरीन चित्रकारों से श्रेष्ठतम चित्र भेजने को कहा गया। कुछ ही दिनों में रॉयल अकादमी के पास चित्रों का ढेर लग गया। अकादमी की विशेषज्ञ समिति सुंदर चित्रों को चुनने लगी। चुनने के बाद उन्हें हॉल में सजाया गया तो सारा हॉल चित्रों से भर गया। लेकिन अभी भी चुने गए चित्रों में से एक चित्र बच गया। वह चित्र बेहद खूबसूरत था और उसे एक युवा चित्रकार ने बनाया था। चित्र में नवीनता थी और उसमें रंगों का इतनी कुशलता व खूबसूरती से चित्रण किया गया था कि बरबस ही चित्र की ओर नजरें उठ जाती थीं। यह देखकर समिति के एक सदस्य ने कहा, ‘चित्र तो वाकई बहुत खूबसूरत है, मगर अफसोस कि हॉल पूरा भर गया है और अब इसे कहीं भी नहीं लगाया जा सकता। इसलिए इसे ससम्मान चित्रकार के पास वापस भेज दिया जाना चाहिए।’ यह सुनकर सारी विशेषज्ञ समिति ने सहमति में सिर हिलाया। इंग्लैंड के सुप्रसिद्ध चित्रकार टर्नर भी उस विशेषज्ञ समिति के सदस्य थे। उन्होंने कहा, ‘इतने खूबसूरत चित्र को वापस भेजना उचित नहीं है।’ इस पर दूसरा सदस्य बोला, ‘किंतु अब इसे लगाने के लिए कहीं कोई भी स्थान नहीं बचा है।’ थोड़ा सोचते हुए टर्नर बोले, ‘अभी भी एक स्थान ऐसा बचा हुआ है जहां पर यह चित्र लगाया जा सकता है।’ समिति के सदस्य उन्हें आश्चर्य से देखने लगे। टर्नर उठे और उन्होंने अपना चित्र उतार कर उसकी जगह उस युवा चित्रकार का चित्र लगा दिया। टर्नर बोले, ‘युवा चित्रकार को प्रोत्साहन मिलना चाहिए, क्योंकि इससे दुनिया को एक महान कलाकार मिलने की राह खुलती है।’ युवा चित्रकार को जब इस बात का पता चला तो वह महान चित्रकार टर्नर के प्रति हृदय से नतमस्तक हो गया।
