परम प्रिय मित्र ..(Beloved friend...)

किसी आश्रम में अनेक छात्र शिक्षा ग्रहण करते थे। एक दिन कुछ छात्रों ने अपने गुरु से प्रश्न किया-‘गुरु जी, धन, कुटुंब और धर्म में कौन सच्चा सहायक होता है?’ गुरु ने प्रश्न का सीधा उत्तर न देते हुए एक कथा सुनाई-‘एक व्यक्ति के तीन मित्र थे। जिनमें एक सबसे प्रिय था, उसके साथ वह अधिक समय बिताता था। कहीं भी जाना होता तो उसी के साथ जाता। दूसरे मित्र से उसकी कम घनिष्ठा थी और तीसरा मित्र बिल्कुल उपेक्षित था। वह उससे बहुत कम मिलता था। एक बार वह व्यक्ति किसी मुसीबत में फंस गया जिसके कारण उसे राज दरबार में बुलाया गया। वह थोड़ा घबरा गया। उसे अकेले जाने मे डर लगा, इसलिए उसने अपने किसी मित्र को साथ ले जाने की सोची। वह अपने सबसे प्रिय मित्र के पास गया, लेकिन उसने उसके साथ जाने से इनकार कर दिया। फिर वह दूसरे के पास गया। उसने व्यस्तता के कारण जाने से इनकार कर दिया। हां, यह जरूर कहा कि और कोई मदद हो तो कर दूंगा। वह व्यक्ति निराश हो गया। फिर वह तीसरे मित्र के पास पहुंचा। तीसरे मित्र ने उसकी पूरी बात सुनी और सहायता करने का वचन देकर उसके साथ राज दरबार गया। राज दरबार में उसने अपने मित्र का पक्ष रखा और उसे संकट से बचाकर ले आया।’ कथा पूरी होने पर गुरु जी ने अपने शिष्यों को तीनों के प्रतीकात्मक अर्थ बताए-‘पहला मित्र धन है जिसे परमप्रिय समझा जाता है, लेकिन वह मृत्यु के बाद घर के बाहर एक कदम नहीं निकालता। दूसरा मित्र कुटुंब है जो यथासंभव सहायता तो करता है, लेकिन उसका सहयोग शरीर रहने तक ही रहता है। धर्म ही वह मित्र है जो इस लोक और परलोक दोनों में साथ देता है। हम इसके प्रति उपेक्षा का भाव रखते है, लेकिन यही स्थायी सुख-शांति प्रदान करता है।’
