भविष्य का तनाव ही पीड़ा है। और भविष्य की चिंता छोड़ने का एक ही उपाय है। अगर आप इस बात को मानने को राजी हो जाएं कि भविष्य अपरिहार्य है, नियत है, जो होना है होगा। जो होना है होगा, अगर इसके लिए राजी हो जाएं, तो फिर आपको करने को कुछ नहीं बचता। तो बेचैन होने का कोई कारण नहीं है। 

करने को कुछ है, तो फिर बेचैनी है। करने के पहले भी बेचैनी रहेगी और करने के बाद भी बेचैनी रहेगी। क्योंकि करने के बाद भी लगेगा कि अगर जरा ऐसा कर लिया होता, तो परिणाम दूसरा हो सकता था। मैंने ऐसा कर लिया होता, तो ऐसा हो सकता था। तो आप पीछे भी परेशान रहेंगे कि अगर ऐसा न करके जरा-सा फर्क किया होता, तो आज जिंदगी दूसरी होती। भविष्य के लिए भी परेशान रहेंगे कि मैं क्या करूं? 

आदमी कुछ ऐसा है कि वह सफल कभी होता ही नहीं। उसके मन का ढांचा ऐसा है कि वह सदा अंत में असफल ही होता है। जितने आप सफल हो जाते हैं, वह तो व्यर्थ हो जाती है बात और नए लक्ष्य निर्मित हो जाते हैं। एक आदमी को दस हजार रुपए कमाने हैं, वह कमा लेता है। दस हजार रुपए कमा लेना मुश्किल मामला नहीं है। कमा लेता है, सफल हो गया। लेकिन उसे पता ही नहीं कि सफलता की खुशी वह कभी नहीं मना पाता। क्योंकि जब तक दस हजार इकट्ठे कर पाता है, तब तक उसकी आकांक्षा लाख की हो जाती है। उसे लाख कमाने हैं। ऐसा भी नहीं है कि लाख न कमा ले। वह भी हो जाएगा। लेकिन जिस मन ने दस हजार से लाख पर यात्रा पहुंचा दी थी, वही मन लाख से दस लाख पर यात्रा पहुंचा देगा। 

हर आदमी असफल मरता है। कोई आदमी सफल नहीं मर सकता। क्योंकि जो भी आप पा लेते हैं, आपकी वासना उससे आगे चली जाती है। मरते वक्त भी आपकी वासना अधूरी ही रहेगी। आप जितना पा लेंगे, उससे ज्यादा का लक्ष्य बना लेंगे। आखिरकार असंतुष्ट ही रहेंगे। एंड्रू कार्नेगी, अमेरिका का सबसे बड़ा धनपति मरा, तो अपने पीछे दस अरब रुपए छोड़ गया। लेकिन मरने के दो दिन पहले का उसका वक्तव्य है कि मैं एक असफल आदमी हूं, क्योंकि मेरे इरादे सौ अरब रुपए छोड़ने के थे, केवल दस अरब छोड़ जा रहा हूं।
