यह प्रसंग पूरी तरह काल्पनिक है। लेकिन इसमें निहित अर्थ बिलकुल सही है। आज के समय की मानसिकता की सटीक झलक है इसमें। कोई भी अपने लिए नहीं, दूसरे को बर्बाद करने के लिए जी रहा है। हर कोई एक-दूसरे को निगल जाना चाहता है। एक विचार दूसरे विचार को, एक समुदाय दूसरे समुदाय को, एक मजहब दूसरे मजहब को फूटी आंखों से भी देखना नहीं चाहते। मंच पर तो बड़े जोरों से हाथ मिलाए जाते हैं, लेकिन नीचे उतरते ही जानी दुश्मन की शक्ल अख्तियार कर लेते हैं। इनमें तीसरा पक्ष हमेशा मुंह बाए खड़ा रहता है कि कब छींका टूटे और वह लपक ले।

इसी रुग्ण मानसिकता और फायदा-प्रधान संस्कृति से अराजकता का जन्म हुआ है। इसी से उन्माद बढ़ा है। छोटी से छोटी बात मनवाने और खुद को थोपने के लिए किसी भी सीमा तक जाने में परहेज नहीं हो रहा है, भले समाज और देश का कितना भी नुकसान हो जाए। हर रोज यहां ऐसे मुद्दे की तलाश की जा रही है, जो दूसरों को नीचा दिखाने के काम आ सके। हम नैतिक तौर पर मशीनी सभ्यता से भी बदतर हालात में पहुंच गए हैं। 

जब हम सजातीय मानव के प्रति निर्मम और निर्दय होने में कोई झिझक नहीं महसूस करते, तो फिर पशु-पक्षी, पेड़-पौधों आदि के प्रति करुणा और संवेदना का प्रश्न ही कहां रह जाता है।

कोई बताए कि जिस माहौल को हम आज बैठे-बिठाए बुलावा दे रहे हैं, क्या वह महाविनाश को आमंत्रण नहीं है? हमें मनुष्यता के विनाश की नहीं, अपने आग्रहों को जीवित रखने की फिक्र है। सवाल है, जब इंसान ही नहीं बचेगा तो बाकी के रहने न रहने से फिर क्या होगा? जिस दिन हम में मनुष्य होने का भाव आ जाएगा, उसी दिन संसार को बचाने की सोच जन्म ले लेगी।
