भक्ति और सेवा ..(Devotion and service ..)

  

एक बार काशी नरेश सुशर्मा के दरबार में एक व्यक्ति ने उनसे प्रश्न किया,‘राजन, कृपया यह बताइए कि मनुष्य के जीवन में भक्ति का महत्व अधिक है या सेवा का?’ काशी नरेश असमंजस में पड़ गए। उन्होंने कोई उत्तर तो नहीं दिया, लेकिन वह इस जिज्ञासा पर लगातार सोचते रहे। कुछ समय बाद राजा शिकार के लिए वन में गए। घने वन में वह रास्ता भटक गए। शाम हो गई। उन्हें न तो शिकार मिला और न ही वन से निकलने का रास्ता सूझा। प्यास से उनका बुरा हाल हो गया था। काफी देर भटकने के बाद उन्हें एक कुटिया दिखाई पड़ी। वह किसी संत की कुटिया थी। राजा किसी तरह कुटिया में गए और ‘पानी-पानी’ कहते हुए मूर्छित हो गए। कुटिया में संत समाधि में लीन थे। वह अपना आसन छोड़ राजा के पास गए और उन्हें होश में लाकर पानी पिलाया। राजा को जब मालूम हुआ कि संत समाधिस्थ थे तो उन्होंने कहा,‘मुनिवर, मेरी वजह से आप के ध्यान में बाधा पड़ी। मैं दोषी हूं। मुझे प्रायश्चित करना होगा।’ संत ने कहा,‘राजन, आप दोषी नहीं हैं। इसलिए प्रायश्चित का प्रश्न ही नहीं है। प्यासा पानी मांगता है और प्यास बुझाने वाला पानी देता है। आपने अपना कर्म किया है और मैंने अपना। यदि आप पानी की पुकार नहीं करते तो आपका जीवन खतरे में पड़ जाता। इस समय मुझे आपको पानी पिला कर जो संतुष्टि मिल रही है, वह कभी समाधि की अवस्था में नहीं मिलती। भक्ति और सेवा दोनों ही मोक्ष के रास्ते हैं, लेकिन यदि आप आज प्यासे रह जाते तो मेरी अब तक की सारी साधना व्यर्थ हो जाती।’ राजा को साथ चली आ रही जिज्ञासा का उत्तर स्वत: मिल गया था। उन्हें समझ आ गया था कि भक्ति बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है, लेकिन सेवा जो संतुष्टि दे सकती है वह भक्ति भी नहीं दे सकती।
